“A matter of store” for Elle Decor at Marmomac 2023
Warm marble that illuminates… takes shape and becomes IMPLUVIUM.
The circular structure rises upward and welcomes guests on its generous seating amidst light and shadows.
The worked slabs of Sibillino marble form slender yet sturdy backrests, rising to support an amber sky.
The Travertine SPA Created by Eurobuilding and Designed by Alessandro Agrati
It was one of the most visited and appreciated installations at the 2023 edition of Marmomac held in Verona in late September. We’re talking about Impluvium, a genuine SPA presented by Eurobuilding, the company from Servigliano (Fermo) specialized in road construction and paving, building demolition, land development, and general construction work. The company also has a division in the marble sector, owning the San Pietro Quarry in Acquasanta Terme, which yields travertine of exceptional beauty, quite unique, characterized by a truly distinctive white background that stands out not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for the warmth it emanates.
“We have been present at Marmomac for many years now,” explains Eurobuilding CEO Umberto Antonelli. “This year, we were asked to create an original piece, as a pavilion themed ‘A Matter of Store’ was being set up for the first time, curated by Elle Decor Italia specifically to showcase all the potential of natural stone as expressed today by architects and designers and made possible by the know-how of the most talented companies. Our architect and my friend Alessandro Agrati, a designer inspired by wellness philosophy who sadly passed away just days before the event, designed Impluvium using our travertine. A true SPA that he wanted to produce all its characteristic beneficial effects.”
The large showerhead creates a striking impact as it releases water jets onto the ground, over the marble surface that surrounds the Impluvium like a carpet. The space between each slab allows water to blend with air. Brass accessories make every element of the structure interactive: from sound diffusers to showerhead controls embedded in the circular seating. A harmonious system of small lights gently illuminates the wet stone. The function of this structure clearly echoes the Roman Impluvium, which was revived in the early ’90s in Italy’s most spectacular SPAs. Here, the collection surface is a lake of light marble that extends beyond the structure and ends at its borders with a slightly rounded bevel. The accessories were also specially crafted for this Marmomac event, including the bronze faucets by Gessi and the bronze roof.
“Eurobuilding has always been a reference point precisely for its approach through such a noble material as stone,” architect Agrati often emphasized. Adding that “it has always evolved, studying history, culture, and innovation through technologies that are still used exclusively worldwide today. Major industrial groups in luxury hospitality and the outdoor world use this stone, travertine, for its fundamental, unique, and exclusive characteristics, for its versatility and aesthetic qualities, but especially because it offers various possibilities for processing, use, and treatment.”
Umberto Antonelli expressed great satisfaction with Impluvium’s success during the four days of Marmomac: “The interest was truly remarkable, not only from the general public but also from industry professionals, particularly professionals and builders interested in incorporating this SPA into the design of high-end hotels, villas, and private residences. This considers the main characteristics of our travertine, and I’m not just talking about beauty but also workability, which allows for example playing with finishes and making modifications without compromising its qualities. This gives designers the possibility to create truly unique works worldwide according to their needs and creativity. The satisfaction of having previewed what I consider an authentic work of art in Verona is enormous. It stirred infinite emotion in me because when architect Agrati sent me the project to review a couple of months ago, I liked it extraordinarily because he really outdid himself. Moreover, it was his last work, so I am particularly attached to it.”
